It's time to find the Best Home Base Business Ideas which will provide for you and your family
Reason #3
Are you sure your job is safe, and that it will provide for all your family needs - now and in the future?
In February 2004 the United States (remember? the world's richest country and the world's biggest and strongest economy) created just 21,000
new jobs.
And as if that wasn't bad enough, the jobs created were all non-productive government jobs.
This is what Angela Shah had to say, in the Dallas Morning News on July 4th 2003...
About 616,000 jobs have been lost since the beginning of 2002, when experts believe the economy began growing again
in a so-called jobless recovery.
One economist said the economy was now trapped in a "job-loss recovery."
And here's some figures from the US Department of Labor web site...
Unless I'm mistaken there was a large net loss of jobs in February and this has been the trend since the year 2000.
In the recent (March 2004) briefing paper to the respected CATO institute, Brink Lindsay stated that...
"Between 2000 and 2003, manufacturing employment dropped by nearly 2.8 million".
Imagine that, 2,800,000 jobs gone in US manufacturing in just 3 years.
WOW.
He goes on to say...
"Job losses are always painful, and the recent recession and sluggish recovery have meant real hardship for many
Americans. It is important, however, to shun hysteria and demagoguery in assessing what is going on with the labor market and why. The
employment picture today is that of a temporary, cyclical shortage of jobs caused by the recent downturn; there is no permanent shortage of
good jobs on the horizon".
Let me read that again.
"Job losses are always painful... there is no permanent shortage of good jobs on the horizon"
No shortage of good jobs on the horizon?
Fine, but how far away is the horizon?
How long is a piece of string?
And regardless of how far or near is the horizon, if you have a family and commitments like a mortgage and healthcare to pay for...
The question really is, just how close is the horizon and can you wait for it to appear?

So just how safe is your job?
This is what one respected economist thinks of the idea, as quoted in a Washington Times article in September 2003:
"The blood bath in the labor markets continued," said Richard Yamarone, economist with Argus Research Corp. The loss
of 1.4 million jobs in the last year and a half is more characteristic of a recession than a recovery, he noted, and is a first for the
American economy. Even the "jobless recovery" of the early 1990s started producing jobs after 20 months of growth. "This is the productivity
miracle at work: lost jobs and low inflation," Mr. Yamarone said.
Low inflation has made consumers so resistant to price increases that businesses have no choice but to cut costs
to stay in business and produce profits. And labor — their biggest cost — is what gets cut, he said.

And if you think massive job losses are just confined to the United States - think again.
Throughout the developed industrialised world, both west and east, there have been massive job losses in the manufacturing sector.
